waiting for one of many surprises to bloom in my antipodes bottle, never getting over smelling like a freshly peeled mandarin with aesop's body balm, pom pom party mats instantly brightening up my day just like the way flowers do, preparing for Melbourne's icy cold winds that I've been warned about, kind of having a moment with nails and hair cuffs in metallics.

NEUTRAL FEELINGS

natasha zinko bunny ring

Todays wednesday wishlist was created using Motilo. I've stayed with a neutral colour palette and added a little colour with these pink toe capped carven slingbacks. The whole look is available to view and buy online here and you can read my interview with Motilo here.

bassike tee / sass and bide skirt / vintage hat / clutch by me / michael kors watch

Mini skater skirts like these are my favourite and I couldn't help but twirl around in this printed navy one while shopping for flowers and new friends for Brick, my little cactus

I've been slowly working on a collection of trinkets and treasures and this is the first of my designed piecesa simple leather clutch with a handmade mirror and shell zip closure. I really love the look of worn out leather (whether it be a handmade book, bag or a jacket thats been through rain, hail and shine) and so I've paired the decrepit feel of this vintage tan with some intricate detailing so that when it's tucked away underneath your arm, there's still a little something that's bright and unusual to catch the eye.

LATELY

Lace and beads, ankle boots for sale on ebay, prelude to love on old bench top chairs, candy looking chrysanthemums, shopping for flowers and plants after falling in love with ideas from plant journal and waiting patiently to go to melbourne for my birthday.

THE WANDERER

I love when a dress does all the talking. This one sets the mood for a global traveler frolicking barefoot. Isabel Marant gets it right everytime, with feminine spirit and bohemian detailing all that's needed is a simple clutch for essentials and a thin bracelet to compliment the look.

THE FLOWER DRUM

Flowers make me happy. And you know what else makes me happy, the lady behind this flower blog. Meet Holly Hipwell. She's a full time flower enthusiast, flower arranger, flower smeller, meeting maker and owner of The Flower Drum. She's funny, quirky and I recently just did one of her flower bombing classes where I chatted with her to find out all things going on in The Flower Drum world:

flowerdrumcollage1

When I was a kid I wanted to be...
A flight attendant

How did The Flower Drum start?
I have always wanted to be a florist, but it just never really happened. I started visiting the flower markets a lot,  became really addicted and I thought, this is it, I love this so much, I'm going to start doing this! I went around to so many flower shops offering myself for work experience and they all said no. That made me so mad. I was offering to sweep up leaves for FREE?! How could people not want me? So I just started my little flower drum blog, people started reading it.... Then people started emailing and calling me for weddings and events. I didn't really know what to do, but I just worked it out. And now here I am with my own shop, great clients and I am teaching other flower enthusiasts how to make Flower Bombs at The School!

What's on your bedside table?
Lots of cups, I drink tea in bed a lot. A huge amethyst rock, an industrial lamp and a Cire Trudon  candle. It smells so beautiful even when it's not burning!

Describe your style:
It really changes, sometimes I want to get super dressed up and just go out to get milk. Sometimes I want to be comfortable, and sometimes I just don't think my outfits through at all.
On flower market mornings I literally get dressed in the dark. And by 8am I look down and think, seriously? Why am I getting around in this outfit?! One day I will wear a stripe dress with a stripe jumper and look like a human packet of lifesaver lollies and sometimes I will wear black jeans and a t-shirt that's reasonably clean that I've found on the floor.
I love printed jeans, high waisted skirts and plain charcoal t-shirts. I have been known to get around in top to toe leopard print. The more prints and patterns the better!

My necklace was given to me by my dad over 20 years ago. He had it made for me when he was on a trip to Dubai. I've lost it, broken it, fixed it and found it. It's usually safer just to wear it!

The picture on my bag is the Cana of Galilee. I picked it up from my very special secret favourite flea market for five dollars. I had to give the stall holder my phone number so he could "call me if they found anymore." It's beaded with hundreds and thousands of beads and it doesn't really have a handle but I love the colours in it, it goes with everything and nothing.

How would you spend your last $100?
I would go to the nail bar and get so much nail art, and on my way there I would buy a strawberry milkshake. That leaves me with about $37. So, I'd probably put another $20 of petrol in my car so I could drive out to the flower markets and spend my last $17 on flowers!

Most exciting project so far?
I have been really lucky to work with some great clients and also sharing some great collaborative efforts with friends. I think the most rewarding project would have to be the flower bomb heads I made for the Alannah Hill stores around Australia. I was holed up in my tiny apartments making ever lasting flower bombs night after night. It was so much work, and it literally took control of my whole living area and life! But when I walked by the window of Alannah Hill and saw my hard work dazzling in the shop front, I was truly so so pleased.

Current obsessions:
Nail art, that's never-ending really. I will love nail art for ever. And ever. Watching tv series (I just finished watching all of Weeds) and anything glittery!

Favourite place in the world?
My dad was a pilot so I was lucky enough to travel to so many beautiful places in this world.
My favourites, by plane - Cebu, in the Philippines and Split, in Croatia.
My favourites by car - The Wendy Garden in Lavender Bay and the flower markets in Flemington.
I always love coming home to the Northern Beaches though.. it's the best!

If not flowers, then what?
Well, if I never took the opportunity to move to Sydney, I might have still been a helicopter hostess. If I wasn't into flowers, I'd love to get a job that involved eating snacks. Or maybe, I like writing too... maybe a restaurant reviewer! If I didn't do that, then no doubt I would have opened a shop and every six months the products would change. Half the year it would sell dresses and the other half of the year it would sell chocolates. Up until recently, I had spent the best part of six years working in marketing and public relations too, that was always plenty of fun!

FLOWER BOMBING

So here it is, my very own flower bomb thanks to Holly from The Flower Drum's first official class that I went to at The School. We started with selecting our carnation bouquets then got snipping, dipping and poking! I'm so in love with it and am ready to make a million more that'll brighten up every single day.

ON THE WAY TO SCHOOL

sass and bide pants / old random top / necklace from bali by jewel rocks / bag from thailand / sandals by hussy

I've never had coffee this late, but I just did... so I'm quite sure I'll be up all night working! But before I get into that stuff I thought I'd sneak in a little post. Polka dot pants, tassels, pom poms, and it was before I did my flower bomb class today (more on that tomorrow!) so it seems like all my favourite things into one.

I love the thought of throwing on a plain tee and that just being enough. It seems to be the natural thing for me to do when printed pants are the chosen option. Accompanied with a little beaded tassel necklace (this one from jewel rocks has been on high rotation, not to mention my favourite label I discovered on my recent trip to bali), embroidered bag and sandalseasy and comfortable.

13

Earlier this year I missed out on this necklace and still haven't been able to get my hands on one. So I've improvised and made my own. My heart was set on creating one with a white feather but this one only seems appropriate seeing as it is black friday.

LOVE ASSEMBLY

The love assembly started in 2009 with my first tumblr post featuring John and Yoko for a countdown to the new year. It was loved and lost after a good year but I've decided to pick it back up and continue to post my favourite selection of photographs. It's quite funny reading back on my old posts before starting hope this lasts. I don't think much has changed as I'm still enjoying and being inspired by the same thing.

A new Tumblr tab will be added to the top menu so feel free to click and view. There'll be less writing, more pictures and the occasional quote.. you know I love a good quote!

DOT DOT DOT

sass and bide tee
armani pants
cheap monday sandals
isabel marant necklace
american apparel neon nailpolish

I've been working around my own polka dot pants recently, trying a different look everytime so nobody notices how much I wear them. Truth is, I get addicted to one item and want to wear it all the time, then my addiction all of a sudden disappears and I'm onto something new, rewind and then repeat. Here's my favourite way to wear themwith a basic white tee, long delicate necklace, low heeled sandals and if you know me by now you would of felt this coming, a pop of neon nailpolish, preferably in yellow.

This is the start of something new: outfit collages, bringing you a little wardrobe inspiration from my cupboard and way beyond (because dreaming is a good thing!)
